Why should you consider using me to provide Project Management of your energy efficiency drive?
When I write a report providing a business with energy saving recommendations it can be easy for the business owner to let time slip by, other distractions take precedence and inertia creeps in.
Part of the service I offer is Project Management – to take over the implementation of the measures I recommend and put them into action.
Don’t just do as I say – Do As I Do!
Implementation of Energy Saving Measures
You want to reduce your business energy use – great – but don’t sweat over the details – engage a professional to take the strain.
I will happily trawl the market, find the right systems, identify and bring in reliable installers – even source finance.
I will oversee the whole project, signing off on the completed solution so that you can get on with what you do best.
Here are just a few clients for whom I have taken things way further than simply telling them what to do.
Mackenzie & Cruickshank Ltd
In 2009 Peter Wilson – the owner of McKenzie & Cruickshank appointed me to follow up an independent energy survey and report on his Garden Centre business based in Forres.
In my Project Management role to date I have organised the removal and sale of an old standby generator set; the de-commissioning and removal of two oil fired boilers; the de-commissioning and removal of ceiling mounted air conditioning cassettes; the specification, procurement and installation of air source heat pumps for the main retail floor; the specification and procurement of radiant heating for the garden centre retail areas; the fitment of timer modules to electric DHW units that serve the kitchen; the specification and installation of an electric DHW unit with integrated solar coil for the toilets.
I have also completed the installation of Virtual Daylight T5 high frequency lighting for the main retail areas (thanks to Clearvision Lighting Ltd and McDonald & Munro Ltd for their assistance), decommissioning of perimeter lighting, installation of new entrance lighting and heating, and installation of heating in the staff room and stores.
Anderson’s Care Home, Elgin
Some years ago I was asked to carry out energy surveys of the two buildings that comprise Anderson’s Care Home and further to the resulting report was commissioned to replace the oil fired central heating with up to date gas fired systems. This project included not only the safe de-commissioning and removal of the existing boiler plant but also asbestolux flues.
I also had to arrange for the installation of new gas mains to both buildings, specification and procurement of gas fired boiler plant, sourcing and over-sight of local contractors to carry out the installation and reporting to the Board on resulting energy savings.
I have since carried out a new Carbon Trust survey (late 2011) identifying further opportunities for savings such as radiator insulation panels, improved lighting etc and organised for a completely independent utility broker to analyse and improve their supply contracts for the two buildings. The most recent project saw high power LED floodlights installed to illuminate the roman style columns of the main entrance and the amazing statue atop the entrance portico.
McEwens of Perth
Many years ago I became involved with McEwens of Perth which is the oldest department in Scotland with a long and proud history of serving the good folk of Perth, Ballater and Inverness. Following an initial energy report on the three properties I was taken on to Project Manage various improvements including:
- Specification and procurement of new electric radiant heating systems for the entire store in Inverness and the new at home shop in Perth (pictured below)
- Specification, procurement and installation of WindCatcher natural ventilation units for the at home shop in Perth
- Design, specification, fabrication and installation of air conditioning and HVAC plant for the main original store in Perth
- Specification, procurement and installation of water saving systems for the toilets at Perth
